It’s the details of the hunt and wildlife that is truly entrancing about the book. The book clocked in at over pages, but all in all it was a quick read and didn’t assegqi that long to finish. The other characters in the story are also well crafted to keep things interesting. I am a mother of three – so obviously I know how it all works. In short, the story, plot, characters and Africa itself is reader’s delight.
Tasked with learning all about Meerbach’s plans, Leon finds himself distracted by von Wellberg, who tries to keep her distance, but is equally enthralled. What can I say? wilbu As the action unfolds in the years before and during the First World War, Assegai throws light on the historical sideshow that was the struggle between German and British colonial forces in that theater so many thousands of miles from the Somme and the Argonne. This was an okay read in some ways when it came to the panoramic tour of 20th century Africa that it offered.
It’s also about so much more and sheds a fascinating light on Tribal Culture in Africa. He finds himself left alone to frustrate aseegai Meerbach’s plan, and in grave peril as he learns more about the enigmatic Eva.
I ended up wishing they’d all blow up in a giant zeppelin disaster by the last few chapters. Three stars feels right to me. Leon uses his contacts among the Maasai – gained from saving Manyoro’s life – to establish a secret information and communications network between Nairobi and German East Africa, while Manyoro and Loikot, a young Maasai who had assisted Leon during his recovery, serve as his trackers.
This tale moves effortlessly between history, geography, and character development, while staying true to the formula for literary success. On the other hand, I can’t deny that more than once my heartbeat actually increased while listening to these scenes, as narrated in the dilbur. Add to Cart Add to Cart. Otto and Eva both manage to bail out, and Eva attempts to kill Otto and avenge her father, only to be stopped by the crew of the Assegai. No trivia or quizzes yet. Courtney carries Manyoro for 3 days to a mountain fortress where Manyoro’s mother lives.
Often times he includes graphic scenes of boy meets girl, which I personally don’t care to read. It also featured a cheezy and predictable love story.

Leon Courtney is the protagonist in this Assegai, number thirteen in the Courtney family series. Posing as a professional wssegai hunter Leon is tasked with gathering information on one is his clients, a wealthy industrialist Asegai Von Meerbach. My book club generally liked the book with agreement that the historical setting, pre world war I in East Africa, was interesting — especially the author’s insight into the Masai and their knowledge of the wildlife.
Although I found the approach to hunting animals by the foreigners visiting to join safari trips reckless and cruel, this was offset by those running the safaris shaming the foreigners about their behaviour. Thank heaven this brilliant author is prolific because if this is your first Wilbur Smith book, you are in for wilubr treat! See more by Wilbur Smith.

There is love and hate and remarkable facts framing this story Mr Smith brings to life. Must redeem within 90 days. In the first part of the book, together with the hunting scenes the reader is presented with many details of the Maasai people’s life: Wilbur Smith has once again presented a masterpiece of drama with magnificent descriptions of the splendour of African scenery juxtaposed with the German and Boer war plans against the British and the spies within.
